Kongo: Important turn in unlocking tilapia and catfish farming models in Congo

The technical and financial models for tilapia and catfish production in the Koilou region Congo were validated after 1,5 years of trials at farm level. An increase of productivity and incomes significantly improves the support of food insecure parts of the population.

At mid-term of the three-years technical assistance to fish farmers in the Kouilou region, our local teams have validated the production models for catfish and tilapia adapted to the region's conditions. These models have shown an increase of 200% of productivity as well as income, based on light intensification and locally produced feed. In parallel we initiated the production of catfish fingerlings and trained some hatcheries to ensure poly- and monoculture production of catfish in the peri-urban areas. Sensibilization with training campaigns as well as coaching is starting in January 2025.
