COFAD Consultants for Fishery, Aquaculture and Regional Development was founded in 1983 in Germany as an independent private consulting firm and incorporated as a limited liability company (GmbH) in 1984.

The company is based in Weilheim, Bavaria, Germany. In 2009, COFAD became part of the GOPA Consulting Group, with GOPA Consultants in Bad Homburg taking an 80% stake. Our membership in a leading consulting group gives us access to state-of-the art infrastructure and enables us to share knowledge and entrepreneurial approaches with our sister companies. Working with other GOPA Group units allows us to offer complex services for cross-cutting projects that extend beyond our own specialist fields.

The technical focus of our consulting services has always been on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture and related regional and rural development, including the blue economy. Our professional expertise of more than four decades, and our multi-faceted team, enable us to take a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach. COFAD places great emphasis on participatory, people-oriented planning and implementation. By using methods that are proven and efficient, yet state-of-the-art, COFAD aims to provide services of the highest standards and to promote the ownership and sustainable impact of the projects and programmes it implements.

COFAD provides consulting services in Germany and across Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America, particularly in the context of development cooperation. Our clients include international organisations and funding agencies, national governments and agencies, non-governmental organisations, private firms and individuals.

COFAD meets the relevant national and international standards for consulting services and is committed to high service quality. The company has a quality management system and is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
