Tunisia: Launch of the Study on Fisheries Governance and Management Improvement and first mission of our team

Our team recently embarked on an inspiring initial mission to Tunis, engaging in several key activities that began with productive discussions with the MEDFISHTUN project manager and representatives from various services and the French Development Agency (AFD). We also visited the wholesale fish market at the harbor of La Goulette and had an informative exchange with a coastal fisherman from the Tunis area, providing us with practical insights into the local fishing community's challenges and opportunities. Our meeting with the Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies (ISTM) was particularly enlightening, allowing us to explore the scientific aspects relevant to the study. The final highlight came with a focused working session with international fisheries experts and key national experts, where we finalised initial analyses and set the groundwork for the next phases of the project. This mission is set to be the beginning of a promising effort to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of fishing practices in Tunisia.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the DGPA and all stakeholders involved.
