Mauritania - Strengthening of IMROP research capacities progress with the design of multidisciplinary research projects and new research center laboratories construction

The multidisciplinary COFAD team has reached an important milestone in the KfW-funded scientific and technical assistance project. The validation of the research diagnosis and skills mapping has outlined the scientific themes and guidelines of the future research project to be funded under the ATS. The core team of scientists is now proceeding with specific training and the elaboration of scientific multidisciplinary projects. At the same time, component 1 of the COS programme, which aims to build the new IMROP research facilities, has started. Close collaboration with the architectural firm ‘Segond-Guyon Architectes’ has begun in order to define the design and needs of the new laboratories in line with the research project. Finally, training sessions and workshops on transversal management commenced in order to strengthen scientific and administrative management. The planned funding of the scientific project will start in January 2025 for a period of four years and will aim to improve the management of marine resources, fisheries and marine ecosystems.
